How to use Echo.

Hey, new here? Echo is a shared memory for your AI tools. It runs as an MCP server, through the Mac app or a one-line install on Windows, so tools like Codex, Claude Code, Claude Desktop, and Cursor all save to and search the same memory. Decide something in one tool and pick it up in another: no copy-pasting, no re-explaining. Setup takes about five minutes.

Already set up? Skip ahead

Step 1: Get Echo on your computer.

On a Mac, download the app, drag it to Applications, and sign in. Setup does the rest.

On Windows, paste this into Command Prompt (it needs Node.js), then sign in in your browser. It connects Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor for you, so skip to step 5.

What is Echo?

Echo is a Mac app that gives your AI tools one shared, long-term memory. A decision you save in one tool, like Codex, can be found and reused from another, like Claude Code or Cursor.

Which AI tools does Echo work with?

Echo’s setup connects Codex, Claude Code, Claude Desktop, and Cursor on your Mac. Other MCP clients, such as Windsurf, can be connected by following the MCP setup docs.

How long does setup take?

About five minutes: install the app, import past sessions if you want to, set a password, and connect your tools.

Are my memories encrypted?

Yes, once you set a password. Your memories and conversations are then stored with AES-256 encryption; titles, dates, names and the search index aren’t encrypted. Your password stays on your Mac, and Echo can’t recover it, so keep it somewhere safe. Google Gemini turns your conversations into memories and OpenAI builds your search index; neither trains on your data.

Do I have to import my old chats?

No. Importing is optional, and you can import more later. Nothing is imported unless you select it.

How do I save something to Echo?

Ask your connected agent in plain words, for example “Save this decision to Echo.” The memory appears in Echo with the chat it came from as its source.

Can I share memories with my team?

Yes. Open a memory in Echo, choose Share, and pick a workspace. Teammates see a snapshot, and your original stays private.

Does Echo work on Windows?

Yes, through Echo’s MCP server. There’s no Windows app yet: install Node.js, run one command in Command Prompt, and sign in in your browser. It connects Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor. The Windows quickstart shows how.
